NEW NHS DENTAL CHARGES come into effect on the 1st of April 2024. Find out about the cost of NHS dental treatment and if you are entitled to free NHS dental care.
The Department of Health and Social Care announced NHS dental charges in England will rise by 4% increase in from 1 April 2024. Details of what is covered by each NHS dental charge band can be found on at the NHS website.
The British Dental Association has criticised the latest increase in charges once again. The BDA have spoken out for patients and dentists calling the latest increase “another slap in the face for hard-pressed families across England”. #TaxOnTeeth.
Charges From April 1 2024
- Band 1 course of treatment (i.e. checkup) £26.80
- Band 2 course of treatment (i.e. fillings) £73.50
- Band 3 course of treatment (i.e. crowns or dentures) £319.10
Free NHS Dental Treatment
A number of patients are exempt from NHS dental charges:
- under 18s
- 18 and in full-time education
- pregnant, or have had a baby in the 12 months before treatment starts
- those on certain state benefits
If you are named on a valid HC3 certificate (partial help), you might get some help towards the cost of your NHS dental treatment. The certificate tells you how much you will have to pay.
For those not entitled to benefits but are on low incomes help with charges may be available via the NHS Low Income Scheme (LIS).
