NEW NHS DENTAL CHARGES announced by the Government come into effect on the 1st of April 2017. Find out about the cost of NHS dental treatment and if you are entitled to free NHS dental care.
The NHS announced a 5% increase in NHS dental charges to patients from 1 April 2017. Patients are being asked to pay higher charges to fund the Government’s tooth tax.
Charges From April 1 2017
- Band 1 course of treatment (i.e. checkup) £20.60
- Band 2 course of treatment (i.e. fillings) £56.30
- Band 3 course of treatment (i.e. crowns or dentures) £244.30
Free NHS Dental Treatment
A number of patients are exempt from NHS dental charges:
- under 18s
- 18 and in full-time education
- pregnant, or have had a baby in the 12 months before treatment starts
- those on certain state benefits
For those not entitled to benefits but are on low incomes help with charges may be available via the NHS Low Income Scheme (LIS).
