NATIONAL SMILE MONTH 2015 kicks off on May 18th but we’ve started early. You might be surprised by the amount of sugar in some of the drinks you are drinking and to give you an idea we’ve set up a little competition.
Win A Prize
In the waiting room we have a display where you can test your knowledge of how much sugar is in these popular drinks.
Which contains the most sugar?
- Ribena
- Red bull

When you visit PMA Dental Care Gravesend take the challenge and if you get the answer right you win a goody bag!
Improving Your Oral Health
National Smile Month is about improving the UK’s oral health. It is organised by the British Dental Health Foundation. The three key messages are:
- Brush your teeth last thing at night and on at least one other occasion with a fluoride toothpaste.
- Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
- Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.
Visiting your dentist at least once a year can reduce your chance of needing a filling by 60%, so it is important to visit as recommended by your dentist. Despite this a quarter of adults say they have not visited a dentist in the past two years and 30% suffer from regular dental pain. A quarter of adults don’t brush their teeth twice a day and over four-fifths of the population have at least one filling.
Poor oral health isn’t just a problem for your mouth, it is also related to your general health. Poor oral health is linked to other serious health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, premature birth and other major conditions.
